Why did you choose to work at HPFC?
I was working in Denver Colorado when I heard of a job opening With Farm Credit back in my hometown of Ness City, Kansas. Not familiar with lending, but familiar with the ag industry having grown up working for my family’s grain company and my grandpa on his farm, this was a great opportunity for me to move back to my hometown and get back to my roots working in the Ag industry. I was hired as a loan officer in August of 2011. I l quickly came to enjoy the lender/borrower relationship and helping customers figure out the financing options that best fit their operation.
What is the best part about working at HPFC?
As a loan officer, there are many resources available to us to assist us in making the best credit decisions possible. My fellow colleagues are always available to bounce ideas or questions off of. When faced with a difficult decision or situation, I always feel like the management team will have my back and help support me and guide me through it. We have numerous meetings/training events throughout the year where we as loan officers have the opportunity voice our opinion and share real-life scenarios that take place in Ag Lending.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part is visiting customers at their farmstead and viewing their operation. Most customers are very proud of their operation and love to tell you about it and show you around. All you have to do is ride along and listen. You can learn a lot from those visits that you can’t from staring at their balance sheet and tax returns.
What is your business philosophy?
Related to Lending- There needs to be a strong relationship between the business and the customer. It needs to be mutual. If both parties are willing to listen and work together to achieve the purpose, the business will be successful and the customer satisfied.
My Personal Philosophy- Be resourceful, go beyond your job description, and don’t stray away from your personal beliefs or ethics.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I enjoy traveling with my wife, going to the lake, and golfing.
