Why did you choose to work at HPFC?

I grew up on a small farm/ranching operation in Southwest Ness County. After graduating from Ness City High School, I pursued a degree in agricultural education, knowing I wanted to stay connected to the farm and ranch industry. I spent 13+ years teaching in high schools, with my last teaching position in Ness City. In the past 12 years, I have purchased a portion of the family farming/ranching operation. Four years ago, I was given the opportunity to start employment with the Farm Credit System as a staff appraiser. This career move allowed me to still stay involved in my family farm and stay connected to agriculture in Western Kansas. Working at HPFC has allowed me to stay involved in an exciting but challenging field of production agriculture and opened doors for gaining knowledge.

What is the best part about working at HPFC?

Working at HPFC has not only allowed me to keep working in the agriculture field that I enjoy, but is leading me to new opportunities to expand my career and understanding of the agricultural fields.

What is your favorite part of your job?

As a staff appraiser, I enjoy traveling throughout Western Kansas and seeing different farm/ranch operations. The limited time I have with customers is always enlightening, seeing their operations and their thoughts on agriculture and life.

What is your business philosophy?

I have a simple thought on philosophy in life/work that, “If it is worth doing, do it right.” I believe that I should put my best into everything that I do. There are times of failure though, and these failures create a learning opportunity to make corrections and progress to doing it right. Expanding this philosophy at HPFC is, “Doing it right for our customers.”

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

Outside of my career here at HPFC, I enjoy helping operate the family farm, hunting/fishing, fabricating (metal and wood projects), and spending time with family at the lake.
